Service Learning Policies
Cancellation Policy:
A non-refundable processing fee of $50 is included in the price of your program fee. Cancellations made 30 or more days before the start of the program will receive a full refund, minus the $50 processing fee. Refunds cannot be made within 30 days of the first program date.
Registration, Payment, & Attendance:
The payment made at the time of registration covers all workshops, service activities, curriculum, program supplies, partner coordination, and staffing. You must register for the entire program; no single day opportunities are offered. Refunds will not be made based on attendance.
Behavioral Policy:
The guardian of every youth registered in Service Learning is required to sign an agreement as part of the Guardian Orientation. Program staff strives to provide a positive learning experience for youth in our programs. As a result, behavior that adversely affects the experiences of other participants may result in individuals' dismissal from Service Learning.
Rescheduling Service Activities and Weather:
Service activity dates and times may change due to our partner organizations' needs and capacity. In the rare event that a service activity is cancelled, the Service Learning team will contact you as soon as possible the day of the activity to reschedule the activity or organize a make-up activity.
Transferring Service Learning Topics:
We cannot accommodate a transfer to a new service topic. If you need to change your topic, our cancellation policy will apply. The spot in the program you sign up for is uniquely yours. Sessions are not transferable to other participants.
Program Enrollment:
Generation SERVE reserves the right to cancel a program if registration does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements. If Generation SERVE cancels a program, a full refund will be issued to all registrants.

Service Learning FAQs
what are the activities involved in service learning?
In Service Learning, we focus on specific service topics. Our introduction and reflection workshops are drop-off events for youth, while the service activities require a guardian to be present. Service activities include a project and lesson, often at the site of the nonprofit we will be helping. Each participant will work on a final extension project of their choice.
HOW DO I REGISTER my child in Service learning?
Service Learning is intended for 8-12 year olds. We will send out an email when registration opens to families with children within the age-range for this program. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. After you complete the registration form, you have until the deadline to make the payment to secure your child's spot in the program.
CAN I BRING ADDITIONAL PEOPLE TO service learning WORKSHOPS OR EVENTS?
Unfortunately, no. The registered youth is expected to attend all activities and workshops, while a guardian is expected to attend each service activity. Please do not bring siblings, friends, or other adults as our groups have registered spots according to our partner organizations' capacity.
WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS TO MISS one of the workshops or ACTIVITies?
Although we suggest participants attempt to attend all of the activities, we understand other things come up from time to time. Please let us know as soon as possible if your child needs to miss an activity. You can contact our Service Learning team here. No refunds will be made for missed activities or events.
CAN MY GROUP OR TROOP SIGN UP FOR service learning together?
Service Learning is intended for individual children, rather than groups. Each child must be registered by their guardian and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs are limited by participants per topic; we cannot guarantee that your entire group will be able to sign up together.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?
The program fee is $160 ($150 for Family Sponsors) for 2 workshops, 3 service activities, and extension projects. This includes lanyards, recognition pieces, partner donations, staffing, coordination, and activity costs.
We offer fee assistance for families with a demonstrated financial need and payment plans to any family who requests one. View our Fee Assistance page for more information.

WHY AREN'T THERE MORE DIRECT SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES WITH PEOPLE OR ANIMALS?
Service Learning is focused on teaching empathy toward the populations we are serving. The nonprofit partners we work with have rules and regulations in place to protect their clients' privacy, safety and dignity. We respect those boundaries and hope to pass that respect on to our participants, even if that means less face time with the population they are serving.
Virtual service learning program?
At this time, our fall offerings are virtual-only programming with projects + guest speakers at the provided date and time. If activities change to in-person, based on health guidelines, safety of staff, comfortability of partners, we will notify families on potential transition and next steps.
