Service Learning Specialist

Do you love working with families? Do you love creating new ways for children to learn about the world around them? Apply for the Generation SERVE AmeriCorps Service Learning Specialist position.

​Generation SERVE is an organization dedicated to introducing families to volunteering. The Service Learning Specialist will develop and lead weekend and evening programs that not only have families volunteering, but provide an anvenue for families to have dialogue around important topics. This person will be responsible for mirroring for parents how to have important conversations with their children, while leading a lesson and activity in a service area. Activities may be on site with a partner or in the Generation SERVE office. 

A Generation SERVE AmeriCorps Member in this position is someone who has an interest in teaching, community engagement, volunteering, advocacy, and families. You are well organized and love to work with groups. In this position you will be able to learn about local non-profits, curriculum creation, and group management.  This is a 30 hour position with evening and weekend hours required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: 
  • Research local nonprofts and their needs
  • Be able to create cohesive and age appropriate lesson plans
  • Manage and facilitate Generation SERVE group activities (training provided)
  • Effectively communicate activity tasks and instructions to a diverse audience
  • Facilitate short discussions about volunteerism and the service areas the projects are addressing
  • Perform pre- and post- activity tasks that may include manual labor
  • Professionally represent Generation SERVE and its branded family volunteering experience

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with both children and adults
  • Comfortable leading both small and large groups of families
  • Trustworthy and dependable 
  • Detail oriented and extremely organized
  • Flexible availability including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time
  • Ability to lift activity materials up to 50 lbs
  • Must have access to car/vehicle or reliable transportation 
  • Consent to and successfully pass a background check

WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
  • This position requires 30 hours per week with a 900 hour commitment from September through May 2023. 
  • A living stipend is paid through our AmeriCorps partner Equal Heart, with an educational bonus upon completed requirements.
  • This position will have the ability to make their own schedule with the understanding that program hours are evenings and weekends.
