Empowering teen leaders to take initiative in creating positive change in our community.
Generation SERVE’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of highly motivated teen leaders who want to make a difference and offer their voices as leaders for Generation SERVE. The members of the board act as ambassadors and deputies of the parent organization in support of our mission: to spark a love for volunteering that inspires youth to grow into community-minded leaders.
Our goal is to provide the members of our board with experience and skills related to leadership, philanthropy, and community service. They are expected to become trained Generation SERVE Activity Leaders and participate in one major fundraising event each year.
Teen Advisory Board Application Process
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) application for the 2026-2027 term opens on May 13, 2026 and will close on Monday, August 3, 2026. Membership is open to teens ages 13-18 who are passionate about volunteering and want to dedicate a significant portion of their extra curricular time to the Generation SERVE organization. The application process includes a first round of written applications for all applicants and a second round of group interviews for those progressing to the final stage. Please carefully read through the application timeline, expectations, and responsibilities for TAB members before deciding to apply.
Our Teen Advisory Board is a small group with limited spots open each year, and the popular program sees a high volume of applications. While previous volunteer experience with Generation SERVE is not a strict prerequisite to apply, we highly suggest applicants spend time volunteering with our organization and/or consider training to become a teen activity leader or co-leader before applying for TAB membership. The application is linked beneath the important information below.
The Teen Advisory Board’s members will:
Being on TAB is a big responsibility, often taking up a minimum of 6 hours of commitment per month. Participation, accountability, and communication is critical to the program’s success. As a member of TAB, you will have the following commitments for September through May of your service year:
- Stay up-to-date with the assignments posted in Google Classroom and have a personal Gmail account.
- Advise, plan, and implement teen volunteering activities and programs, including serving as an Activity Leader for the Teen Service Day (TSD) and Family Volunteering (FVP) programs.
- Design and facilitate fundraisers and other initiatives to support our teen programming and the overall organization.
- Create an inviting teen community for Generation SERVE and strive to serve the needs of that community through programming.
- If selected for the outreach committee, TAB members will create content and creative works for the many outreach channels, including our blog, newsletter, and social media.
TAB Time Commitment:
- 1 general meeting (2 hours, in-person at Generation SERVE’s offices on a weekday evening each month)
- Lead 5 activities or the equivalent of 10 hours in the Fall and 6 activities or an equivalent of 12 hours in the Spring. These activities will typically be on the weekends.
- About 1 hour of work based on current TAB projects and initiatives, including regular record keeping for their TAB participation and involvement (assorted solo tasks with varied timing and due dates). Each TAB member will submit 2 brief written reflections each Fall and Spring about their leadership experiences as an Activity Leader.
- We encourage each TAB member to support our biggest volunteering event of the year, Family Volunteer Day, which occurs each November. This will count towards Activity Leader hours.
- New TAB members will participate in See Teens Give in the Spring and returning TAB members will participate in Giving Tuesday in the Fall.
- Additionally, successful TAB members are organized and proactive about their commitments and schedules. Checking your email and other communication methods (Google Classroom, etc.) is crucial for TAB members, as communication happens in-between the monthly meetings.
- TAB general meetings for the 2026-27 service year are currently scheduled for Monday evenings from 6-8pm on the following dates: September 14th, October 5th, November 9th, December 7th, January 11th, February 8th, March 8th, April 12th, and May 10th.
